Leading Experts in
Co-Design

Co.Design4All has been created for people just like you by people interested in you and your problems. Natasha Doherty and Tracey Johnson have spent their careers listening and responding to the needs of others. In the process, they have developed some of Australia’s most recognised skills in co-design.

They have been commissioned to create training and toolkits for organisations wanting to equip their teams with skills in community engagement, product development, co-design and place making. With experience working across large corporations, government, not for profits and small business, Tracey and Natasha understand your context. They can help your team get to the heart of complex problems and leverage resources from others to make change and impact. If you are tired of advocating alone or simply want to enrich your capacity to manage projects better we offer training, mentoring, facilitation and consulting services. These can be accessed individually or in combination. Let us know about your need and we can provide a proposal to fit your project and budget.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Speaking on Co.Design4All

Many people are confused by the term co-design.  They believe consultation is the same thing.  Consultation is just the beginning of a co-design journey.  Co-creation and co-production are other terms used for a process which involves building deep and trusting relationships with others so that something new can occur.

We can help you cut through the confusion.  Our Co.Design4All team have studied the literature, built their own practice and inspired others through their speaking and training activities.  If you need an advocate to create the right environment for your project, you might need an engaging speaker.  We offer online briefings, keynote presentations, webinars and workshops.  If you need someone to reinforce what you have been saying, to cut through to decision makers with credibility or simply someone to help you open doors, reach out to us.

FAST TRACK LEARNING

Done with you – Co.Design4All FACILITATION

Sometimes the best lessons in life are learnt when you have someone to follow and someone who will pick you up when you fall down.  We have been fortunate to spend our careers learning from great teachers, consultants and movement makers.  We have tested and trialled many tools and approaches, learning what works along the way.  So, rather than risking your credibility when commencing a co-design project or place-based co-design initiative, bring in an expert.  We can safely induct you into what co-design offers and mentor you to play an ever increasing role.  We can help you plan your project and conduct initial engagements and workshops.  Over time, we will take the back seat and let you drive the project to the destination your community desires.  So if you want a leg up not another consultant who breezes in, charges huge fees and leaves you to untangle the relationship maze, reach out and discuss our approach.

COACHING

Mentoring

Mentoring with experts in co-design is essential for developing the skills and mindset needed to lead inclusive, user-centred work. Co-design involves navigating complex dynamics—like power imbalances, facilitation challenges, and ethical engagement—that can be difficult without guidance.

Experienced mentors offer practical tools, insights, and feedback that accelerate learning and build confidence. They help mentees engage diverse stakeholders meaningfully, translate input into design decisions, and reflect on their own biases and roles in the process. Mentorship also fosters empathy, cultural humility, and a deeper understanding of equitable design practices.

Beyond individual development, it strengthens the co-design community by promoting shared learning and raising the overall quality of practice. With expert support, emerging practitioners are better equipped to lead collaborative, respectful, and impactful design processes that place people at the centre.

The Co.Design4All team can provide expert mentoring that is more than helpful – it is essential for building the capacity to lead thoughtful, inclusive, and impactful co-design.

Navigating the politics within and between organisations to achieve results through collaboration can often be a thankless task. It is rarely in anyone’s position description and not something most people are trained in. Those who thrive in co-design are those who see opportunities for impact. They are prepared to bridge the knowledge, system and service gaps between divisions, entities and sectors. That can be demanding. It can be great to debrief with like minded colleagues. It can be even better to discover a tool or approach which suits the situation you find yourself in right now. Co.Design4All brings such people together and allows them to explore tools and techniques which make solving problems in groups and communities so much easier.

Co.Design4All Founders

We have over fifty years of experience experimenting and mastering co-design and place based responses. Yet, we are still young enough to seek more challenges. The Co.Design4All team continues to push the boundaries. We want to help you make an impact. Our mission is to equip others to make a difference in their place and setting. That is why rather than limiting our time to expensive consulting assignments, we are sharing our knowledge via our Co.Design4All toolkit and related training programs. We are sharing our knowledge via published articles and resources and regularly attending conferences. We want co-design principles to become available to everyone so that more gets done with less effort. We want to help make the world a better place by solving problems which can only be tackled when groups agree and share.

We are both big picture thinkers and change agents with a practical side. Trained as economists we want to see businesses grow, industries flourish, communities prosper and regions advance. Having worked in healthcare, we know those goals can be hard to achieve when need is huge and resources always limited. That is why dealing with the root causes of demand, forming partnerships, ensuring smooth transitions between providers and even pooling effort and funds is what we have achieved in various projects.

We have demonstrated experience formulating strategy and completing complex project and program evaluations. With years of commercial experience, both developing and supporting the commercialisation of new products and services, we know the many paths innovation takes and the skills required to deliver results.

Beyond creating individual business and organisational success, we have worked in industry development and regional economic development. We have brought groups of businesses and peak bodies together to achieve funding for new training and related facilities, research labs and major export drives. We have even helped form industry clusters and helped them leverage supply chains, export market penetration and shared investment in R&D.

This has been done with full exposure to many governments, government programs and political cycles. Having worked within and outside of government we are deft in identifying stakeholders, opportunities and identifying alignment with key initiatives. This means we can help form an advocacy position and support you to pitch when the time is right.

Beyond the big picture, we know detail. We can read, generate and use data to make a case. We also love finding out about people and reading a room. Let’s get to know each other so that together we can all make more impact.

CO-DESIGN IN ACTION

Health Equity Coalition

Poverty and disadvantage come in many forms. People affected often lack access to healthcare which is affordable, appropriate and accepting.

The Health Equity Coalition was formed by six not for profit providers to focus attention on the funding needs of medical centres serving the most marginalised. Through facilitation from the Co.Design4All team the Coalition developed a model of care, proposal to share data and staff, a business case for funding and a policy brief outlining their vision for a new health program.

This collaboration took months to form. Gaining shared insights and agreement on what was common across the disparate group of providers (some of whom compete for grant funding) meant gaining trust. Achieving commitment to a new model of care meant stepping outside of professional domains and organisational history. Developing a unified voice demanded a big enough payoff for change. After months of facilitation using many of the tools in the Co.Design4All toolkit, the Health Equity Coalition produced a business case requesting over $200M in funding.
