Mentoring with experts in co-design is essential for developing the skills and mindset needed to lead inclusive, user-centred work. Co-design involves navigating complex dynamics—like power imbalances, facilitation challenges, and ethical engagement—that can be difficult without guidance.

We have over fifty years of experience experimenting and mastering co-design and place based responses. Yet, we are still young enough to seek more challenges. The Co.Design4All team continues to push the boundaries. We want to help you make an impact. Our mission is to equip others to make a difference in their place and setting. That is why rather than limiting our time to expensive consulting assignments, we are sharing our knowledge via our Co.Design4All toolkit and related training programs. We are sharing our knowledge via published articles and resources and regularly attending conferences. We want co-design principles to become available to everyone so that more gets done with less effort. We want to help make the world a better place by solving problems which can only be tackled when groups agree and share.
We are both big picture thinkers and change agents with a practical side. Trained as economists we want to see businesses grow, industries flourish, communities prosper and regions advance. Having worked in healthcare, we know those goals can be hard to achieve when need is huge and resources always limited. That is why dealing with the root causes of demand, forming partnerships, ensuring smooth transitions between providers and even pooling effort and funds is what we have achieved in various projects.
We have demonstrated experience formulating strategy and completing complex project and program evaluations. With years of commercial experience, both developing and supporting the commercialisation of new products and services, we know the many paths innovation takes and the skills required to deliver results.
Beyond creating individual business and organisational success, we have worked in industry development and regional economic development. We have brought groups of businesses and peak bodies together to achieve funding for new training and related facilities, research labs and major export drives. We have even helped form industry clusters and helped them leverage supply chains, export market penetration and shared investment in R&D.
This has been done with full exposure to many governments, government programs and political cycles. Having worked within and outside of government we are deft in identifying stakeholders, opportunities and identifying alignment with key initiatives. This means we can help form an advocacy position and support you to pitch when the time is right.
Beyond the big picture, we know detail. We can read, generate and use data to make a case. We also love finding out about people and reading a room. Let’s get to know each other so that together we can all make more impact.

Health Equity Coalition
Poverty and disadvantage come in many forms. People affected often lack access to healthcare which is affordable, appropriate and accepting.
The Health Equity Coalition was formed by six not for profit providers to focus attention on the funding needs of medical centres serving the most marginalised. Through facilitation from the Co.Design4All team the Coalition developed a model of care, proposal to share data and staff, a business case for funding and a policy brief outlining their vision for a new health program.
This collaboration took months to form. Gaining shared insights and agreement on what was common across the disparate group of providers (some of whom compete for grant funding) meant gaining trust. Achieving commitment to a new model of care meant stepping outside of professional domains and organisational history. Developing a unified voice demanded a big enough payoff for change. After months of facilitation using many of the tools in the Co.Design4All toolkit, the Health Equity Coalition produced a business case requesting over $200M in funding.

FAQ’s
To our knowledge there are no formal offerings in co-design or place based co-design training. We offer a range of training programs and are exploring micro-credentialing for co-design. We are building partnerships with a number of peak bodies who see the value for their members in gaining more skills in co-design. Our membership page outlines these associations and the discounts members of those groups can apply to an annual subscription to our toolkit.
Co-design and particularly, place based co-design involves groups of people from the same area coming together to identify better ways of making use of the resources already in a community. When health and social care providers come together to share data on need, engage consumers and carers in unmet need and work with clinicians and providers to create seamless transitions in care better outcomes result. Underpinning all of that is use of strong process and a plan for guiding attention. That same process applies when local regions want to attract more business and leverage the strengths of the employer base already in a town or community. Unless you have data to highlight the problems, until you can bring the right folks with the right mindset to the table for fruitful discussion and until you can shape governance to achieve sharing of resources you will not be able to deliver the big wins which co-design makes possible. You need a plan and series of tools to support that plan to ensure the magic happens. Co-design models, our toolkit, training and consulting services can be wrapped around your problem to get better results.
Becoming a member of the Co.Design4All community will give you exposure to what is involved and access to many tools to get you started. Once you define your stakeholders and they commit to collaborative problem solving, you may have access to more resources. This is when you can decide if you need support with planning and managing your co-design journey via a light touch consulting model. You might decide the biggest priority is a guide to help problem solve as your journey unfolds and our mentoring model works well for that. If politics and big change are likely, you may want to bring in someone external which is where our consulting services would be of use. Within that model we can transition leadership to a local team as the project unfolds to ensure that costs are contained, local commitment is built and transition to implementation is smooth.
Our Co.Design4All model is designed with maximum flexibility in mind. We routinely work with organisations in rural and regional areas and across Australia. What we do is designed with international audiences in mind because much of the work is self-paced. That means we are used to working remotely with small amounts of face to face time. Our comprehensive online platform enables access to all our tools and techniques. That means you and your teams can download and start populating the many things involved in creating background documents, plans, consultation sessions, workshops and reporting. You can pick and choose amongst options to ensure the format speaks to your audience, culture and constraints. Our supports are customised to you because our toolkit is so varied. But, they are affordable because we give you our templates and process so that you can take the lead. No more expert consultant keeping things secret and offering only periodic and lengthy reports. We co-design with you from beginning to end so that you are as much a part of the solution as we are.
